Radiant Tablet

The Radiant Tablet PC is a lightweight, portable device that can be used for line-busting, gaming, and a portable POS for wait staff.  The Tablet PC services the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) and Hospitality food markets, and is also used in Convenience Stores, Entertainment Concessions, and for Gaming applications.

The Tablet PC is made up of the following hardware components:

The Tablet PC adds flexibility to the Food Service industry by providing a direct method of order-entry and faster check-out for wait staff.  By entering the order while at the table errors are reduced.  Customers also have the option to pay with a credit card quickly and efficiently.  The Tablet PC provides extra comfort and security for the customer because the credit card never leaves the owner’s site.

The Tablet PC also offers an excellent interface to gaming applications.  Since the Tablet PC is portable, businesses never run the risk of being without an open playing station for a customer who is ready to start.  Casinos or Gaming Halls maximize profit by always having extra Tabet PC stations available when the fixed machines are all in use.

The Radiant Tablet PC offers ease-of-use with a bright 8.4” diagonal resistive touch screen.  An optional outdoor anti-glare screen is also available for use in sunlight.  The Tablet PC has a rear hand strap to make it easier to carry with one hand while data can be entered with the other hand through a stylus or finger-touch.  A shoulder strap can also be attached to the Tablet to provide extra support when both hands need to be free.

The Tablet PC has a sleek design that provides a complete solution in a small, light, form-factor.  The all metal enclosure is leveraged to act as a heat sync to allow for plenty of fan-less cooling.  Flash storage media is used instead of a hard drive to make the Tablet PC a Solid-State device.  Solid-state for the Tablet PC is important for several reasons:

By running Windows XP Embedded as the O/S and 800 x 600 native screen resolution, many software applications are easily supported on the Tablet PC.  There are also numerous options for connectivity or expansion.  Those expansion options include 802.11a/b/g wireless networking through the miniPCI slot, native Bluetooth support for peripherals, Compact Flash slot, a single USB port on the tablet, and two USB ports on the charging cradle.

The Tablet PC is powered by an internal battery.  An optional hot-swappable external battery can be attached to the rear of the enclosure to extend the battery life to a total of 6 hours.  Both the charging cradle and the Tablet PC have connections for a power brick for charging the internal and external batteries.  Since the external battery is hot-swappable, backup external batteries can be purchased so that battery life is never an issue.  For sites requiring multiple backup external batteries, a 6 bay external battery charger is also available.

Optional peripherals are supported for payment and scanning requirements.  A 2-track USB mini-MSR can be attached to the side of the tablet to add support for payment by credit card.  Receipts can be printed by using the belt-clip Epson TM-P60 receipt printer (Bluetooth or Wireless options).  The Epson belt-clip printer emulates the print formatting of the Epson TM-88 wired receipt printer which is already supported by most POS software applications.  This means that there are no extra software changes required for receipt formatting.  A Compact Flash Class Two bar-code scanner is also an add-on option for scanning requirements at check-out or for inventory.  Class Two scanners are visible in sunlight so they work great for indoor or outdoor solutions.
